The Full Story

About

Mobile Port City Marlins is a fun instructional and competitive swim program dedicated to helping minority children improve water safety in their communities while fostering a fun, safe, and nurturing environment.

After his late wife died in a drowning accident, Coach Tinsley turned his pain into purpose. He then learned that African Americans have a higher prevalence of drowning than other races in general.

According to the USA Swimming Foundation:

  • 64% of African American children do not know how to swim (compared to 40% of Caucasian children).

  • 79% of children in families that earn less than $50,000 a year do not know how to swim.

  • 76% of parents report that their children would be more interested in swimming if they saw a talented swimmer who looked like them.

Mobile Port City Marlin's couples skill-building and uplifting their community!
